“Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle”, Why make a Jumanji movie? Beyond the obvious answer about the interest that a known brand awakens, and that is what guarantees at least a floor of collection not less, those responsible for the new delivery had to creatively justify the existence of the sequel. Beyond the shadow exerted by the absence of Robin Williams, the great challenge of the Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was the need to deliver something that was not a mere replica of what was already seen in the production directed by Joe Johnston in 1995 , based in turn on Chris Van Allsburg's book.
In the final result, this new adventure directed by Jake Kasdan (Walk Hard, Bad Teacher) is played by giving a total turn to the previous premise. If in the original movie it was the mysterious world of Jumanji that goes off the board, to wreak havoc in a small town in the United States, in this sequel the protagonists follow the route of the young Alan Parrish, being sucked into the game.
In that area, its premise immediately sells the idea that everything is new, especially as regards generational change. Connecting directly with the end of the previous film, a 1996 teenager receives the board game from his father, who found him on that beach that closed the previous movie.
But as the young man throws it away completely, since he is more interested in video games than in laying his hands on an old-fashioned artifact, the classic board becomes an eighth-century electronic cartridge. The idea is that Jumanji can not be discarded and he will always find a way to catch people. That is why the young man falls into temptation and is locked inside that world full of dangers.
A little over 20 years after those events, a new group of teenagers - an athlete, a popular, a nerd and a "weirdo" - run into the cartridge, just when they are in school detention for various mistakes they make. Once they connect the retro game, since their punishment is too boring, these four young protagonists select their characters and are trapped in the world of Jumanji.
#4 A great release date: February 4, 2018
Starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillian, who give life to the avatars that each teen character chooses, Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle differs from the original one not only by modifying the environment of his adventure, but also for being much less imaginative. In fact, the animation series based on Jumanji made more use of the idea of being locked inside this dangerous world.
Hence, although the scenario is new to the live-action, and replicate the experience of a video game, what happens on the screen is much less attractive than that 1995 movie that unleashed the dangers with carnivals of monkeys, plants that transformed houses in jungles and herds of animals destroying everything.
The very idea of enclosing the characters inside a video game, with extra lives and dangers with scenarios that increase the difficulty gradually, transform the experience into something extremely schematic. Not only that, enclosing characters inside a video game world is not the greatest novelty in the world, since it has been addressed in films and multiple animation series.
In that sense, the schematic of its history and the fact that its dangers do not have the same grace of the original, which increased the risks in the real world, are completely defined by the villain of history. As part of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, the characters have their specific characteristics and abilities. For example, the one who plays The Rock is obviously the perfect adventurer, without any weakness, but his background story links him directly with his nemesis: an ex-Allied explorer who became corrupted by stealing a stone - called "The Eye of the Jaguar" - that represents the heart of Jumanji and that allows to take control of each creature of the jungle. That is why in the middle of history there is a kind of curse.
